The Walsh Research Library and Gallery
The Historical Society’s growing library includes many historical books about City Island, including old newspapers arranged in binders for easy reading and handling, scrapbooks and photograph albums covering the Island’s history over the last century. There are many nautical publications, including Yachting, Rudder, Wooden Boat, and Classic Yacht. The library is dedicated to Harold Vandervort Walsh, whose paintings of City Island scenes are displayed on the walls. The work of other Island artists is also on exhibit, along with some model yachts.
This gallery is also used for special temporary exhibits such as our current exhibit with the work of Mark Whitcombe, a local artist.
