BREAKING NEWS
On Friday, July 13, 2007, a fire was set on the front porch of 190 Fordham Street. The entrance to the museum was destroyed and there was considerable smoke and water damage to the foyer and the hallway. Fortunately, most of the collection is intact and only minor damage was inflicted on some photographs in the hall and on a skiff near the entrance. The condominium board assures us that insurance will cover most of the damage but we will not be able to reopen to the public for a matter of weeks, if not months. For more information or to inquire about contributing to our relief fund, please call us at 718-885-0507.

Welcome to the City Island Historical Society’s new Web site. We are delighted to be able to introduce you to one of the most interesting communities in New York City, a small island with a rich nautical history. Much of this colorful past is preserved in the Society’s Nautical Museum, which is open to visitors every Sunday afternoon. This site will provide you with a quick tour of the Museum’s interesting exhibits, some of them dedicated to City Island’s famous yacht-builders who contributed to the successful defense of the America’s Cup. Through our on-line collection, we also offer a sampling of the images of boats and historic houses that are part of our archives.
